I’m what many would call a “Walt Disney World Nut” and I’m proud of it. I think Abbie is becoming one as well…so mission accomplished thus far. I found post on the Disney Food Blog that talked about a “Monorail Crawl” and I was intrigued. The idea was to start at one of the Monorail resorts, get a drink, then hop back on the Monorail to head to the next resort to repeat the process until you end up where you started. We decided to include dinner with our crawl. So here we go…
We started in the lobby of the Contemporary, waiting on the Monorail to go to the Grand Floridian. (Yes we skipped the Poly because that was going to be our last stop.)
Once at the GF we walked over to the Mizner’s Lounge for a pre-meal cocktail. Abbie got a Raspberry Rain which she thoroughly enjoyed. I got Glenlivet 12 on the rocks. If you’re going to walk around a swanky resort…you need to be sipping on a swanky drink.
We took our drinks to go so we could walk around the resort. The flowers and decorations were amazing.
Once our drinks were done, we boarded the Monorail and made our way to the Contemporary. Next stop was The Wave for drinks and a nice dinner.
Abbie got a Pear Martini and I got a Kentucky Peach. Both were very good and great drinks while we waited on our table.
We decided to split a single dish of steak and garlic and cheddar mashed potatoes. The bread at The Wave was also great and had some kind of sea salt butter to spread on it.
With dinner finished, we boarded the Monorail and made our way to the Polynesian.
At the Poly, we went to Kona Café for dessert. Abbie had some kind of chocolate cake and I had a pineapple upside-down cake. They were ok, but we’d probably skip it next time. This place was much better for breakfast (that’s called foreshadowing).
Before heading to the Poly beaches, we stopped by the bar outside of ‘Ohana. Abbie wanted another Raspberry Rain, but they were out of raspberries…WTH I know…so she got some pomegranate drink which she didn’t really enjoy. I got another glass of Glenlivet 12, and we headed to the beaches.
Walking around the Polynesian is one of the most relaxing and romantic things you can do on a trip to WDW. So if you haven’t, make sure you do it next time. We made our way to the same spot and swing we went to on our honeymoon and waited on Wishes to start. For those who don’t know, Wishes is the nighttime fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom.
Well, I was under the impression that the synchronized music would be piped to all of the Poly beaches. That way we could sit back and relax while watching the fireworks and listening to the audio that went along with it. Apparently I was wrong, and the beach we were on had no speakers or music or anything. So, all we got were tiny fireworks off in the distance. We were both pretty let down.
Still, the night was a total success and we boarded the Monorail and made our way back to the Contemporary. Once back at the Contemporary, we walked across to our room at Bay Lake Tower.
